I used to like Expedia, because it has the best selection of hotels and often the best deals on tickets. It is also very easy to use and I often find stuff quicker than on other sites. Whereas I still
use it for tickets, I just decided to not use it any longer for hotels. I have booked hotels in New York City twice through Expedia and both times the hotel descriptions and pictures were extremely flattering compared to the actual hotel you will find. My latest encounter was the Jefferson Washington Hotel near Times Square, which was shown to have nice queen or dual twin rooms with desks and everything you need. What I found can only be described as a chamber with 1.5 feet of space around the queen bed and no space for a decent desk, let alone the chair for the desk (the room had no chair!). Complaining didnt help (its New York!) and, of course, having booked through Expedia doesnt allow you to bail out and get a refund. Expedia put me on hold for about half an hour, when I decided to hang up and deal with the situation. This has been the second time I *tried* to reach customer service, the one time it actually worked (a long time ago), I got them on the phone after about 45 minutes... I would expect Expedia to screen their hotels and verify that offered hotels actually look at least somewhat like their pictures... I will get my hotels somewhere else in the future.
