We booked a hotel two weeks before traveling and received a confirmation email that stated that our rooms were confirmed and guaranteed, and held by a charge on our credit card.
Three days before
travel, they told us our rooms were no longer available and that we had to get a different room for $15 more per night. This, despite the fact that they had told us our rooms were confirmed and guaranteed and held with a charge on our credit card.
The problem is that Expedia does not actually make the reservation -- they contracted with another travel agency, so we get to pay the middle man twice. Not only that, they never actually confirmed any of the details with the hotel. So they flat-out lied about confirming the reservations.
I pursued this with the Better Business Bureau but they were unable to force Expedia to refund the extra charges.
