I tried to book a package vacation with expedia and I was told that they could not electronically verify my debit card, I wouldn’ be able to book the vacation.  HOWEVER, they took 1,600 dollars out of my account (just a random amount, not the cost of my trip).  I spoke with someone at customer service who was extremely rude.  He told me that the sixteen hundred dollars was a "dangling expense" that they take off of cards.  He told me that the money would be put into my account the next day.  Well the next day I find out that the money has not been put back into my account and they have taken 200 more dollars out.  I spent a good 4 hours on the phone with probably 4 different people, all of whom were extremely rude to me, trying to find out why they can just take 1800 dollars out of my account.  They kept telling me that the money wasn’t actually taken out it was just "floating" in cyberspace and would be put back into my account in five to seven days.  The bank told me that all i needed to have done to have my money back immediately was to have expedia fax a piece of paper to the bank with minimal amount of information and no one at expedia was able to do this to help me.  I WILL NEVER EVER EVEN CONSIDER USING EXPEDIA TO BOOK A TRIP AND I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE!  The hold times on the phone are outrageous, all of their customer service people are extremely rude and they have hidden charges that they just hold onto for good measure until they decide they are done with it.  Do yourself a favor and stay away from this horrible company.
