I flew to Spain from Hyderabad on 1st November 2014 using Etihad Airways(EY0277). First layover was in Abudabi and the second one in Rome(EY0083). From Rome, Alitalia(EY7043) operated the flight and I landed in Madrid. My luggage with all my clothes went missing after landing in Madrid. I reported the matter to the Airways staff. It took 4 days to find my luggage and sent it to me. Meantime, I spent 290 Euros for essentials(clothes and others) to support myself for four days.
I also lost the documents I was carrying for a meeting. I contacted the customercare of Etihad since the flights were operated by them. I sent all the documents including the copies of boarding passes and the receipts for purchases upon request(see attachments). After going through the receipts and other documents, they asked me to talk to Alitalia instead for the refund of what I spent. Alitalia said, it's the duty of the Etihad since they operated first two flights and the luggage was their responsibility.
Initially the Etihad customercare executive asked me to send the copies of all the documents. But once I sent them, he backed off and asked to contact Alitalia. This is clearly unethical.
This cat and mouse game is still on till today with no solution. I lost my money in the process for no fault of mine. Etihad is the clear culprit but they are not ready to admit it. Don't opt for this airline. Stay away from Etihad.
