Last month I traveled to Melbourne to Heathrow via Abu Dhabi with one of my friends on a leisure trip. Since I had pretty bad experiences with few airlines, I decided to travel with the Etihad Airways for the first time. The plane from the outside looked impeccable, however, the services inside were not satisfactory.
As soon as I entered the airplane, I saw a couple of seats completely worn-out and the handles of few seats in a mangled condition. My friend had some problems while coming up the aisle, as he is slightly fat. The space, however, was definitely narrow. While boarding the plane, almost all the zones were huddled too close with each other, which lead to never-ending queues and confusion amidst the passengers.
The service inside the plane was quick, however, the attendants were literally soulless. They hardly interacted with the passengers and I did not even see any flight attendant give a smile to the passengers. I could see a couple of air-hostesses busy talking with each other, while the passengers constantly requested for something. I hope Etihad is offering them good packages, because almost every flight attendant seemed to be going through the motions. The seats were compact and there was hardly any leg-space available in most of the seats. The in-flight entertainment hardly worked, as my there was some issues with my touch-screen TV. The crew tried to fix it three times, but were unsuccessful. The food was below average. The bread was hard and the tomato soup extremely thin. Adding to that, the range of beverages was quite limited.
Overall, an extremely average experience with Etihad Airways. The airlines needs to serve better food, work on its in-flight entertainment and more importantly, pay their flight attendants well.
