On November 21st we flew Emirates from Newcastle to Dubai and then on to Mumbai. The first part of our trip was excellent given the fact that we departed almost 3 hours late. When we arrived at check in we were issued with a £5 meal voucher each ,as they already new the plane was to be late.Later put down to fog in Dubai. This issue of vouchers a far cry from a lot of other airlines who try their best to avoid you when things go wrong.Once aboard the Airbus 330/200 we were impressed by the attitude of the multi-national staff and their attentivness.Nothing was a bother.Lightening quick service delivered with a warm smile.
The seats on the Airbus are more comfortable than the majority of airlines and appear to be a different shape to the majority of other airlines. We have travelled on over Twenty. This appeared to afford a greater level of comfort. The seat back entertainment screens all in working order and with a good range of services.
The inflight meals offered a good choice,Two alternatives, and this was only in economy. The presentation and particularly the quality of the meal was excellent. a fast and regular drinks service made the flight delay more acceptable. When we arrived at Dubai we encountered a setback in transfer, this is down to the expansion of the airport.Everyone is bussed from the aircraft to the terminal building. With being late and the time needed to catch our connection our visit to the world renowned Dubai duty free never happened.
Our second leg flight took off 45 miutes lat e as we were supposedly awaitng the arrival of a connecting flight. It appeared it must have landed in the duty free as everyone carried a duty free bag of goodies.
Our return flight would not run as smoothly as the outbound.
Upon arrival at Mubai airport we were met with a gigantic queue and it took us 2 hours to arrive in the departure lounge. It appeared that the aircraft that was to be used had been substituted for a larger one. From a Airbus a330/200 into a Boeing 777. So instead of 268 passengers, give or take we were now part of 400 passengers flying to Dubai. Needless to say we took off late.
Upon arrival at Dubai, landing 25 minutes late and having to be bussed to the terminal (No2) and then having to find our way to terminal 37,we realised that we were in trouble for our connection to Newcastle. After running all the way across the airport we arrived to find the boarding gate being closed.Other people from other connecting flights had also ran the length of the airport.Whether their flights had bee delayed or not I dont know. Upon arrival at the boarding gate the attendant, who can only be best described as,"Snotty" in her attitude was very reluctant to help us board the aircraft. This person belied the attitude on all the other Emirates staff we had encountered. We advised her that our lateness was down to our Emirates connecting flight and not our fault. She showed no interest and said that was our problem. How can a connecting flight lateness be our problem? When asked what would be the scenario had we not been allowed to check in and had missed our connection. She re-iterated that was our problem and not hers. Does anyone have the answer to this question? If you are travelling all the way with one airline and their connections are late whos resposibility is it to make the connection? We finally boarded and departed for Newcastle on time.Again the internal aircraft service, complete with meals was excellent. Overall a excellent airline with comfortable aircraft. Michael & Sheila
