Having taken 60 - 70 flights in the last two years with Emirates, I look forward to travelling with them whenever I have need to go abroad. Their warm hospitality and personable cabin crew are great
assets to the airline.
Occassionally have had problems with flight punctuality however far less than other airlines and I suspect that the works for the new terminal in Dubai are having some affect on this.
Emirates ground staff also very friendly, however, they are let down in some countries where the service is provided by an airport services company. (Qatar is a great example of this - where the checkin service is achingly slow and incompetent).
I would love to be able to say that the national airline of my own country, Qantas, was as good as Emirates but it really doesnt compare.
Emirates has the Skywards frequent flyer program which is great - with many additional benefits - EGate at Dubai airport, no blackout dates and so on.
In business class, the Chaffeur drive service is such a relief when you have been travelling for over 20 hours.
The food and lounges are fantastic - although Dubai Airport lounges can get quite crowded.
Now some pet peeves:
1. There is a continuous barrage of announcements and promotional videos from the time you push back until at least 30 minutes into the flight. I understand the need for the statutory announcements but why so much of this other garbage constantly. The first couple of times there were mildly interesting. 60 times later, they make me want to scream. Unfortunately, theyre not optional and they are worse than spam in my inbox. Silence is golden.
2. Why is the airshow (the moving map) interrupted by the same BBC news headlines over and over for the last hour of the flight. Particularly when on approach or landing - this is when the airshow actually gets quite interesting. Cut it out.
3. The online ticket purchase doesnt work in the UK if you try to use a non-UK credit card. Unfortunately, theres no notice on the web site that mentions this - actually - it contra-indicates. It took a phone call the the local Emirates office to find out that this is a common problem with non-UK credit cards. Dont assume customers would know this.
End Of Peeves.
Notwithstanding the peeves above, Emirates is a great airline and I will continue to use as my first preference.
