I flew economy from Gatwick to Dhaka, changing in Dubai. The planes, and flights, differed vastly. The London to Dubai plane was lovely: good facilities and service; food pretty tasty;
friendly hostesses, great individual entertainment system. But the flight from Dubai was most unpleasant!! It didnt help that the plane was chock-full of passengers, most of whom were very, very tetchy and demanding. I also realised how cramped the plane was, with the large lady next to me resting her arm and leg on me for most of the journey. I was sitting in a window seat where theres a very inconvenient lump of plastic where your legs would normally go. The service was also dire. Very slow, lots of delays, missing my food out then not apologising. In addition, the entertainment system wasnt half as good; you had to watch what was on - no choosing between scores of films and programmes like on the first plane. I flew with Etihad recently - also a United Arab Emirates airline. I know people have had very mixed experiences with them too, but I think theyre generally substantially cheaper and you also get loads more free stuff - ear plugs, eye mask, toothbrush. Neither were perfect but I thought Etihad was very good for a new airline and much better value.
