I wish to express my extreme disappointment with travel using Emirates airlines, over 2 longhaul flights in the past 3 weeks. My first flight was on the 24/11/06; Departing Heathrow, London to Dubai,
EK2 @ 1345hrs. The first issue I encountered was at check-in. I had checked in already online, and was informed over the telephone by Emirates staff, that I would be able to express my baggage in, with no need to wait in line at the checkin counters. I waited 35 minutes at the checkin counter, as there were NO STAFF on the online checkin counter. On this flight, the cabin staff were rude to me when I asked for assistance in stowing my cabin luggage. I indicated when I entered the plane that I had a recent neck injury, and would require assistance in stowing the luggage. When I asked a cabin member to assist, she refused, saying she would not lift it. I advised of my injury, and she stated I would still have to help her. I indicated I was unable to, and that she could ask another cabin crew to help her with my bag. She pulled a dreadful face, and then proceeded to complain at length within earshot, about myself, to another member of staff, in a VERY rude and unprofessional manner. Other passengers heard, and I was more than embarrassed. Also on this flight, although it was documented that there were two meal choices, when the cabin staff got to me, they told me I only had one choice. I was forced to endure a meal I did not like, with no other option provided, and no apology for lack of choice. Then, with 2.5 hours of the flight remaining, inhouse the entertainment system faulted. Everyones television sets froze up, channels could not be changed and we were forced to sit the rest of the flight out, with no effort on the cabin staffs behalf to remedy the situation, nor apologise for the inconvenience. At transfer to my next flight in Dubai, we were informed once we had all passed through checkin to the waiting gate, that our gate number had changed. Hence causing over an hour and a half delay. My next sector was from Dubai to Singapore. (I might note that when I purchased my flight, there was NO indication that my flight would even be going via Singapore.) On this flight, EK404, I was given a seat which did not recline AT ALL. I was stuck in complete, upright position, in an uncomfortable manner. I informed staff of this, and informed of my recent neck injury, and asked that I be moved to a seat which was maintained and functioning correctly. They told me they were not willing to offer me another seat, although there were empty seats within economy remaining. I was very, very unhappy. I stated I felt I had no choice but to find another seat myself. They informed me I was not allowed to do so. Hence for the rest of my long-haul flight I sat in both pain and discomfort, with no assistance from cabin crew to relieve me. On my return flight from Melbourne to Dubai (EK407) then onto London (EK001) there were further delays in boarding, etc. putting my connecting independent flight from London to Edinburgh in jeapordy. Once arriving at Heathrow, I learnt that my baggage was missing. I reported it to S.A.S, who advised it had not shown on their system as missing, and lodged a formal report. I was telephoned late that night (12 hours since arriving) that it was located, and would be delivered the following day. I was advised it would be sent through first thing in the morning for same day delivery. Hence, with no other option, I took the day off my employment and sat at home waiting for the baggage. At 12pm today, I was phoned to say my bag was with BMI Edinburgh. I was told by both SAS and BMI that it would arrive between 1pm and 4pm. It is not 1715hrs, my baggage has still not arrived. I am so utterly dissatisfied with my entire experience with Emirates. I found the cabin crew often harsh, rude and unhelpful. I am thankful I did not waste further money to upgrade to Business Class as I was considering to do so, as I feel it would have been no better than the poor treatment we received in Economy. Funny to think I can pay almost £800 and receive no service, yet I flew with BMI yesterday on a mere £20 fare and was treated with more dignity, friendliness, and professionalism than I think Emirates could ever provide.
