I really didnt know under what category to write this one in. I choose Entertainment, because
reading is also a source of entertainment.
Easylib is a Circulating Library located
in
Koramangala, Bangalore. The library is conveniently located in Koramangala 1st Block, very close to the Wipro (K2) Office. Its in the First Floor & the sign board is easily visible from the Road.
This Library is a souce of mainly English books. I did not see any Kannada books. The category of books available is quite wide ranging too; Fiction, Contemporary Fiction, Humor, Philosophy, Biographies, Magazines (Wisden Circinfo, Business Today etc), Childrens Books are all available. Even Archies, Tintin, Asterix & Tinkles are also available.
All books/magazines are neatly categorized in separate racks, each rack being labelled neatly. The books in each rack are then arranged alphabetically based on Author Names. Any new latest releases are dsplayed in a separate rack right in the front. So far, I have mainly read fiction & some comic stuff and I have found whatever I required. Another amazing feature of this library is that its accessible online.
www.easylib.com is the URL.
Visit this URL, and you can browse through the list of book available; read through the brief summary of the book and if you decide to borrow it, then
reserve it online too. Yup, it all happens through the click of a mouse. Once the book is reserved you have the option of collecting it at the Library or have it delivered to your work place or home. (Now if you were residing in Yashwantpur, I dont know if they deliver that far. Better check with the library beforehand).
To do all these though, you need to be a registered member. Online payment is not yet available. Once registered you can also check if you owe any amount to the library and your credit status (if any). The Library is run by Ms. Vani Ganapathi. The staff of Mr. Harish and others are quite courteous.
An initial membership fee is of Rs. 300. Rs. 60 is the monthly membership fee. Each book borrowed can be retained for a period of two weeks. You pay 10% of the actual book cost, as the reading charges. For e.g. you borrow a book whose actual cost is 100 bucks. Then 10 bucks is the reading charges. Magazines are charged on a per day basis. If your monthly reading charges crosses 100 bucks, then the monthly membership fee is waived off. Also any delivery of book to your place is charged at Rs. 5 per delivery.
Overall I find this Library a good one. Books are maintained neatly and if you dont find the book of your choice, you can also recommend one. The brick-and-mortar place might not be a very large one, but the online presence more than makes up for it. The charges might seem high, but I guess if you want some convenience then you gotta pay up. See
www.easylib.com for more details.
