E-Books Vs. Paper Books
Aug 23, 2010 03:37 PM 64153 Views

Ebooks are the malady of modern daytechnology. There is no competition for paper books. The smell of new or old paper (depending on whether one buys new books or second, third etc hand books) can never be matched by any ebooks. Paper books you can read anywhere, anytime. You can carry them along with you on a journey, to the beach, to the bed to read a few pages before falling off to sleep or when on vacation as they are not very heavy. There is no experience as reading an paper book, in which you canbury your nose and read it from front to back simply because it is so interesting, you dont have the heart to close it until you finish it.

One can just fold the edge of the page if one wants to continue reading where it was left off.

Now coming to the new age e-book. Other than saving valuable works, I don't think ebooks add much value. One cannot read for long on a monitor no matter how interesting the book may be. It is impractical to carry ebooks around unless you have them on your mobiles. But the mobile screens are so small you will end up straining your eyes and damaging your eyesight. You cannot gift ebooks to people as they would not count as sentimental gifts, where as a paperback is always welcome as a gift.
