I got my slip disc(L5-S1) in 2003. I was a Ph.D. student in IISc Bangalore that time. It started with pain in left leg and no pain at my back. Initially, I ignored it thinking it was just some stray pain from my cricket field. When the pain did not subside in a reasonable time, I went to Manipal Hospital in Bangalore and got an MRI scan done. A prolapsed disc was diagnosed. I first tried physiotherapy. The pain was steeply increased. So much so that I got bedridden. I had to stop my academic works. Doctors suggested surgery but my father advised against. At that time I came to know from one of my friends that alternative medicinal procedures such as Acupressure and Acupuncture work well with slip disc. I then searched over the internet for someone whom I could trust with those techniques and found Dr. Vijay Sarvotham.
After my first four or five visits, the pain again shot up. I was about to stop the process when one fine morning I felt the pain was just not there. Well, I am exaggerating. It was there but reduced to a level that I could feel almost reborn without any problem. So I continued. The pain was down to about 10% of original in about a month. Since then the recovery was quite slow. Nearly six months later I was walking and sitting and sleeping without any pain. I was still not running, carrying loads, cycling or doing heavy exercise.
I am settled in Bhubaneswar now. However, I travel every year to Bangalore for a week and go through his treatment just to avoid any problem throughout the year. Kind of paying the premium to ensure a year of pain-free life. Even today I can not run or play cricket. But that is okay. I can do everything else without even remembering that once I was in bed for 20 consecutive days.
I just hope Dr. Vijay continues his magic for years. As long as he is there, I shall live a pain-free life.
