The script ain't new

So here is the story. I get to the UK and
what is the first thing I do? No, I did not check out the chicks. No I did not
check out the brilliant cars and bikes. That’s right, I found my way to
the
nearest cinema hall. After watching a few movies, I was forced to decide
between doomsday and Nim’s Island. One look at Rhona Mitra and my heart was
pumping. One look at the trailer and I knew this was one movie that was not to
be missed.

I agree that I do have a thing for athletic
women that kick a**, a childhood fantasy that was fulfilled when I saw Tomb
Raider, that was extended by Mila Jovovich, and the cherry on the cake was
without a doubt Kate Beckinsale.

In a nutshell, I have a thing for women in
Latex and leather.

Doomsday may not be the most creative story
line. In fact, one look at the trailer I managed to figure out that it was
probably a mix of zombie, virus and underground genre of movies. However what
did fascinate me about the movie was the raspy quick action and the no-nonsense
approach to violence. Zombie movies are gory, but this one takes the cake.
Scenes of men being burnt alive as barbeque meat, decapitations and overall
blood spilling are not everyone’s cup of tea. In fact, I would strongly recommend not watching this movie if you are faint at
heart
.

However if you have pretty much seen
everything, then you can go out and watch this enjoyable action flick. The
action scenes are well directed and the story line is fast moving. The actors
have been given very little in terms of acting, but good acting is hardly what
you expect from an action flick like doomsday.

My favourite scene without a doubt was the
one where Sinclair (Mitra) looks through an invoice to find a Bentley GT
continental and casually remarks “Nice colour. I’ll take it”.  Needless to say the Bentley is a little beat
up by the end of the movie (damn!).

One very interesting thing the movie does
exploit is the degradation of morals and values in the absence of law and
order. A very interesting insight into the way man kind may react if law and
order broke down.

As far as action goes I would give the
movie a 3.5 out of 5.

For the story line 2.5 out of 5.

Cinematography 3.5 out of 5.

Add it all up and you get an average score
of around about 3.

As always no revealing the plot of the
movie
