inconsistent costs, poor customer service, exhorbitant rates

Tata Sky was introduced into the market when the cable operators started using arm twisting tactics to get more money from subscribers,

Fed up with the constant harassment of cable operators, many consumers opted for Tata Sky mainly because of the low rates (Rs. 250/- per month versus 400+ of the cable operators)

Tata sky sold like hot cakes as the quality of the picture combined with the low cost was an attractive option for the consumers.  Once Tata Sky established its base (apparently they sold more than Dish TV) they resorted to the very methods that the cable operators were using to fleece the consumers.  Every new channel that is added is shown free of cost for a period varying from 1-4 months and then put into one of the paid packages.  The rates too got hike after the initial 6 months from a 250 to 300 bucks plus taxes.

Just when the CB series between India-Aus-Srilanka got underway Neo sports channel went paid.  They offered a discounted prices for the sports gold channel, but made sure you never got thru their numbers within the deadline to subscribe and ended up paying the full cost of the package.

Now just when the French Open, wimbledon, euro 2008 and asia cup were round the corner, they got into their arm twisting tactics to yet again fleece the consumers and got espn, ten sports, star cricket and star sports off and put them in some package.  No wonders ESPN and star went to court over these tactics.  The result they reduced the base cost from 300 to 260 but if you were to calculate you are actually paying more for viewing the same number of channels.  They have now extended showing of these channels upto september and then it will be back to basics.

They have all these channels which I am sure about 90% of the consumers dont watch the astha, the yog channels, the numerous regional channels.  I would recommend they package all regional channels as per their location such as kerala, tamil, kannada, marathi, telegu, rajasthani etc and allow the respective people to subscribe according to their wishes rather than dumping it down their throats.

They shud package channels such as sony, zee, star etc and let people pick and choose and pay accordingly.

I would say the way Tata Sky is operating is daylight robbery.  Being in India they are aware we indians have a lot of patience.  Let the sky network try these tactics in Europe and/ or US and they will be dragged to court for usage fraudulent  methods.

Its time the consumers woke up and joined hands to fight for the rights.
