Story:

Intro & disclaimer: Well.. as its listed here on mouthshut and as the name suggests ‘Dinner with Friends’ must be a book, which like you I too haven’t read. I did a google to find out that it’s a play. Arre janam samjha karo na … this revu isn’t about the book, but when I explain things you will agree. ( you have to ;-) ] so read further only if you have time, patience and minimum 23 ounce of curiosity!! And two lips that can smile ;-)

Word-by-Word: Since I am not Abha or Megha, I do feel guilty about posting under wrong category ;-) I could have posted under ‘tips on maintaining friendship’ or ‘five best friendship songs’ ..but chose this one as it was most apt ;-). So do some justice to the book & to give some respect to the author ( though he is American), let me just analyze the book, word by word. ;-)

Dinner – An evening meal which I have had more than 10000 times ( why do they only report when someone crossed 10K runs? )

With – an English Preposition, rare example: a hubby saying ‘she agreed with me’!!

Friends – you and me, we are all ;-)

Together Dinner+with+friends = Dinner with Friends !! .. now lets move to the author

Donald – a name ..examples Alan Donald, Donald Duck ;-)

Margulies – is made of two hindi words marr + julies, where again marr = kill, hit and julies = plural of Julie, a female name, as in ‘na kuch mere bas mein Julie, na kuch tere bas mein’. … as per hindi grammer or vyakaran when R and J come together, it results in G .. so its Margulies and not Marjulies ;-) anyone thinking of questioning these word analysis & grammer, be warned – “santhosh bhaise sawaal nahin karte” !! ;-)

Well that was some betuki stuff to scare away readers. Actually this revu is about 2 dinners I had with some MSian friends. Yes the dinner is had, digested, but then no harm in ruminating over and chewing the cud over and again ;-)

Reason & Season: A small flashback will remind you that the last MSians meet ended with everyone agreeing to meet again. May be someone wanted to meet badly, so universe conspired to make this meeting happen. The universe conspired by having two of its stars descend in/on Bangalore, in a winter season. Not just any star, a northern star & a southern star. Do you need any more magnets for crowd pulling? Now the meeting itself would be around the stars. So reason is clear …well season was winter season. ;-)

Legend & Participants: For those who aren’t catching up with the title and other jargons, here is an helpful legend.

Light-House: Something/someone that ‘throws light’ … u know who ;-)

Star: Someone who has a star icon next to his mouthshut id. Apparently the crème-de-la-crème of MS. Otherwise they are regular aam aadmis and aam aurats. ;-) you will see the star icon next to id, only here on MS, and not on their shoulder or head .. unless they want to carry one of those Xmas stars ;-)

Star-burnt: to get star-burns, to feel the heat and radiation of the star. Star burns are to star what sun-burns are due to sun. You may have read in science class that stars are also suns. ;-)

Participants: if you had my IQ, u wud have decoded the 4star rating I have given to mean – there were 4 stars for the dinner. 2 on each day!! So lets meet them.

Northern star: often refered to as megha-star, this stars travel plans went for a six, but still managed to save the schedule from disa-star, thanks to her lucky stars

Southern star: since this one is closer home, we see it often throwing light.

Local Star: MS’ own first lady, a veteran of the previous MSians meet.

Local Star Maker: The man behind the local star, he is the one who led abha to MS.

Aam Aadmi: me!

Dinner-1: was in honor of north star. Giving company were abha, mayunk and me. We gathered at abha’s place. We began with pleasantries ..and the conversation then moved to virtually everything, be it railway reservation, MS gossip, media, ads …. Until we were hungry. Since we had abha we didn’t have to think twice abt where to eat. And soon we are heading to ‘smoking joes’ for dinner. Again we leave it to abha to choose what pizzas to order. We order 2-3 pizzas, one of which was ghas-pus. Being a baba disciple deep in my heart I felt ashamed to see a ghas-phus pizza next to my plate, until I was allowed to take a piece from it !! ;-)

Now that pet bhar gaya, we again get into the next best thing we can do with out mouth –talking. We became the panel and discuss everything that comes our way. At Jesus’ birth the stars showed the way to others, now our northern star didn’t know any ways in Bangalore, so we drop her and then disperse .. planning about the dinner next day with another star!!

Dinner -2: its our turn to see the lighthouse. North star is absent. This time its for abha, mayunk and me to meet daya. We decide to meet at forum .. not the likes of world economic forum ..its the FORUM mall. ;-) thanks to our Indian punctualities, the guest reaches first. I am still walking to the spot when he calls me. I walk, I swim thru the traffic to see a man lost in thoughts, observations and making mental notes. Its not difficult to recognize the familiar face whose pic we have all seen a million times on MS homepage. Yes he looks the same, like his video, and like his pic. ( though now he has his son’s pic. He looks like his son too …err I mean his son looks like him).

We greet, we hug. And over the next hour, we talk a lot on various things over a cup of cold drinks. We take snaps, standing next to a car on display ;-) and then head for dinner at Hyderabad biryani house. By then Abha, mayunk also reach there. What follows is another round of talking, eating, photos. We had to hurry things up as daya was to travel overnight to Hyd, so we take leave off each other .. but not before me sharing the world famous aircraft joke !! .. those working onsite, planning to go onsite, abroad all need to know this joke. Otherwise there are chances you will be deported back !! ;-)

Trivia: 1) shyam was the MSian mentioned most time – 23 and half times. 23 times someone said ‘shyam’ ..and one time someone said only ‘Sh’ !!

2)Despite being from Hyd, we still took daya to Hyd biryani house, so that he feels at home ;-) [ my excuse not knowing restaurants nearby ]

3)Daya is another aam aadmi, megha is a aam aurat ;-) .. meaning they are simple beings, just like you and me. I think only in bollywood stars throw tantrums ;-). And mayunk- abha are aam jodi, since they are a married couple.

Well, if you are with me still, reading this ..thats the end of the news. The reason for writing this was two fold. A) to overcome my laziness and get back to writing b) to write something solely intended for humor.

If you have read so far, why not comment? ;-) ..and don’t hesitate to contact me for any grammer related queries ;-)
