Dimna Dam in Jamshedpur( Tatanagar) is quite a famous picnic spot and tourist place for the people of Jharkhand.
I had the experience to visiting this place from Dhanbad in a group just for a picnic purpose. You may be knowing the distance between this two cities is not very close.
We rent a bus to accommodate 30-35 people in our groups. We were mainly group of friends, some of them were married and with kids too. So, it was really a big trip with big arrangement.
We started in the early morning from Dhanbad and it took around 5 hours to reach there. Dimna Dam is located in the heart of the city. So, we have actually seen the city while reaching there. As we were going for a picnic, we took all the necessary stuffs in the bus and also took 2 professional thakur(cooks) with us from Dhanbad. And, there were many people in our team to help them around.
Once reached, we picked up a ideal spot and made all the arrangements for cooking. Already several picnic groups started their preparation. After a packet breakfast( usual menu of bread butter, boiled egg and Banana) we started roaming.
The place was nice and quite ideal for arranging picnic. As, this was my first tour to this part of the country, I really liked the new experience. Some of the boys were helping in cooking preparation. I also did my bit as it looks odd to just be an idle man while all others busy working.
Then, there was usual Antakshari round with tea and pakora. I saw people coming to this place for picnic even from West Bengal, Odisha. I did not know that this place being so famous as a picnic place. It was a nice winter morning and every one was enjoying the moments. I always knew TataNagar as an industrial place, but this spot is altogether a different experience for me.
Dimna dam is created to solve the drinking water problem for the people staying in Jamshedpur.It is located near to the river Subarnarekha. This place is quite calm and peaceful. I enjoyed the green beauty of this place. The place is free of pollution and a nice place to be in.
Some of us enjoyed the boat riding in the lakes and some of the people were just scared to do this as they did not know swimming. I also did rowing in the lake and loved every bit of this experience.Then we visited the park just near to the Dam. It was nicely maintained and looked like a colorful paradise with so many blossomed flowers. We spent an hour in that park.
Now, it was around 2.30 PM by then and we sat for our lunch. Simply cooked rice, roti, daal, potato fry, and chicken curry made our day! Actually, sitting and eating in the lap of nature with groups of friends and family is really a wonderful experience. We can not expect the same feel while dining in an A/C restaurant.
After lunch, we spent some time just gossiping and then it was time to return back. We moved all the items in the bus and our return journey back to Dhanbad started at 5 PM. We reached Dhanbad ar around 10 PM. But, I really cherish the memory till now and we enjoyed a lot singing and dancing in the bus music in the background on our way back home.
I have noticed that there is a rest house to stay there overnight.If you are in Tatanagar, just give this place a try, if not for a big picnic party, you can at least go just to explore the spot with 2-3 hours in hand.Commuting to this place is not a problem as this is located in the main city of Jamshedpur. Overall, It was a great experience and I sincerely recommend this place.
