First Rocky Balboa, then Die Hard 4.0, I
guess this year should be called the year of ‘kick starting franchises’. Die
Hard 4.0 (or Live free or Die Hard as it is called in the US),

is
perhaps the best offering of the whole Die Hard series. Directed by Len Wiseman
(the same guy who made underworld), the movie is one action sequence after the
other, there is no way you can watch this movie without wondering “Damn Mclane
has a habit of wrecking stuff”.

Bruce Willis may be getting older, but he
shows no signs of stopping up, and he is as fit as he was in the first 3
movies, the addition of Justin Long to the movie made for a welcome change from
the all macho crew that is usually associated with the Die Hard franchise. In
fact there are some really funny scenes in the movie that only Justin Long
could have bought to the movie. The first thing I noticed in the credits of the
movie was that the movie was actually based on an article (don’t remember the
name), probably a first as far as movies go.

Die Hard 4.0 (the .0 goes with the fact
that the move is based on cyber terrorism), is one thrill ride after the other,
Maggie Q does her usual karate thing with flair, and I loved the scene where
she manages to tick Bruce Willis off so much that he chooses to drive a SUV
into her! What makes this movie special is that Len Wiseman has directed it,
Len Wiseman has his own distinctive style of action, and is not afraid to use
CGI when required. Unlike most action movies that are an overkill of CGI,
Wiseman knows where to draw the line between reality and fiction.

One of the most impressive scenes in the
movie was the one with the F22 Raptor blowing up a super highway to bits, not
only does the movie show the impressive thrust vectoring capabilities of the
Raptor, but it also shows the amazing manoeuvrability that the plane has. (If
you have no idea what thrust vectoring is, Google it, you will be impressed).
Agreed the scene may be a little unbelievable but the fact is that plane is
capable of the stunts shown.

In fact the movie is an eye opener for
people who feel computerising everything is a boon. The research has been done
thoroughly and I am still trying to find loopholes into the theory used in the
movie. All in all 5 out of 5 for action, 4 out of 5 for direction and 10 out of
10 for using the trademark punch line “Yipee kay Yay…..”.

As always no revealing the plot.
