Devi Cineplex is probably the one of the Oldest theaters in the City. Founded in 1970, the Theater is has very large screens and seating capacity over 1000s at a time!
My father used to watch movies there when we was studying at college at pachaiyappa. He used to say that "he would never forget those goldern day".
When I would have watched atleast more than 8 movies here including Mugavaree, Poovellam Un Vasam and Priyamaanavale.
Last time I watched with friends was 7G(2004) and with family(including my dad, who is no more now) was Arinthum Ariyamalum in(2005). The Theater was good, but the seating were not upto mark. I have also noticed that car parking wer not sufficient and there would always be crowd outside after a show and it would take atleast 15 to 20 min for u to come out of theater.
After 2005, we switched over to newly introduced and modified multiplexes like Mayajaal, Sathyam and Abhirami. Now a days we use to watch movies only at Sathyam, Escape(EA), Mayajaal, Inox or abhirami.
Recently, we got some free time and it was at final moment when we decided to go to movie, thats Thupakki. We were searching for theaters like Sathyam, Escape and inox but found at ticket filled.
So my brother said, why not we try the newly renovated Devi theater. And so we tried booking online for the theater. I have already heard from friends before that Devi theater online booking is faulty sometimes. So we tried and I failed twice(Money deducted too!) and we tried one last time and it clicked. So we went there for 12 noon show on a sunday to watch it. We go the refund for the extra deduction(which we know its not a problem).
And Here are the pros and Cons -
Pros -
1) Parking space increased than before.
2) Many shops inside the complex have been removed. Well that little bad but because of that remove the theater looks pretty decent now. There was a saravana bhavan hotel in front of car parking in the theater complex and becoz of that unwanted crowds to visit the complex. Now the removal of that hotel and some other shops have reduced those crowds.
3) Many new facilities in the complex added, like - New Ticket counters, new elevators, improvises automated toilets bowls, clean interior(becoz of less crowd I guess) and many snack departments inside the theater.
4) theater is also improvised, like - New cushion seating, mat floor, A/C with good effect and large screen.
5) Best theater during movie releases and while watching movies with friends.
Cons -
1) Theater is very smelly. Bad Smell will change ur pleasant mood.
2) many drunk and time passers visit the theater. Many low class people also visit this theater. This makes the theater the smell bad and also not suitable for family.
3) Car parking is in Open.
4) Mat floored but is unclean.
5) Staff members are not that friendly.
Overall, u can go this theater only if -
1) u searched for top theater in city and found them full. This theater is always almost empty(Except on new release weeks).
2) If u cant spend a lot(including parking).
3) if u want to enjoy with friends and GF(not wife).
4) if u want to sleep. :-P
Tagline - U might not miss this theater but beware a bit too.!
