There is a large Crosswords at Gurgaon. Unfortunately the large space and swanky decor is deceptively impressive. The stocks are very poor -- a popular children's author like Jacqueline WIlson is not stocked and staff have not even heard about her. Similarly, I haven't got several common titles I have asked for. The service is also slow and inefficient. Staff hang around behind the counter and don't help with billing, they have no knowledge of tiltles stocked and are completely unimpressive. The worst disappointment was when invites were sent out for a Ruskin Bond book signing, and the author failed to show up. Large numbers of children who had gathered were turned away.
Crosswords has a nation-wide reputation, but it doesn't match the standard in this Gurgaon branch. Probably refelcts the typical Gurgaon culture of synthetic show without any substance. However, booklovers would come to a shop with a serious intent of browsing and buying, so what's the point just decorating a place with swish furniture and fittings and not having the requisite stocks?
