After reading Wulise's account of cranberry juice, I thought of giving my thoughts on cranberry juice. It is a wonderful healthy juice, which helps maintain urinary tract health. It is good for your bones too! I wonder whether you get it in India though!
Here you can find them in all supermarkets and health stores. Mostly, people use them a lot during Thanksgiving. I feel, cranberry juice should be used at all times for health reasons.
Cranberry juice is not very expensive also. A 2 litres can costs about 3 Canadian $ plus taxes. It is the same price as any other juice like orange, apple etc. It is rich in Vitamin C. Now a days, you get sugar- free cranberry juice also. You also get Cranberry Juice Cocktail Plus, which is loaded with calcium, and with Vitamins A, C and E.
Let me give the health points of view on this great drink!
Studies have confirmed that drinking cranberry juice increases the amount of hippuric acid in the urine which kills bacteria. This leads to minimising of urinary tract infections. Actually, it prevents urinary tract infections .
There is also reason to believe that cranberries can help treat diaper rash. When urine mixes in the diaper, the result is a high pH (alkalinity) level that irritates skin and leads to diaper rash. Here, children are given two to three ounces of cranberry juice everyday. This leaves an acid residue in the diapers, helps lower pH and reduces irritation !
Some studies also show that cranberries help stop calcium - type kidney stones from forming. Good for people having diabetis. Many senior citizens here take it as part of their daily diet to overcome many diseases including urinary tract and bladder infections. They drink 1 to two cups of cranberry juice a day to keep themselves protected from any infection.
If you get cranberry juice in the part of the world where you are living , you can consider giving a try to this healthful drink. It may not be as tasty as orange juice, but for sure it is a healthy drink. I like the taste and it's rich color and am sure you will like it too!
P.S. Some people here use cranberry juice for baking cakes. Instead of adding milk or water to the dough, they add cranberry juice. Maybe, you can also try this hint.
