I have lost count how many times I have seen this movie.

My friend in New Delhi, is so addicted to this gem of a movie, that he has this video cassette always loaded in his VCR. Whenever, he or
his family gets bored of watching same old programs on TV, they simply switch to Chupke Chupke.

Directed by: Hrishikesh Mukherjee (one of my favourite directors of all time)

Starring: Amitabh, Dharmendra, Sharmila Tagore, Jaya Bhaduri, Om Prakash, David & Asrani. They are supported very well by the usual supporting actors whom you would see in many Hrishikeshda’s films.

Plot: Dharmendra and Amitabh once college pals, are now having their own career paths. Dharmendra is now a famous Botany professor Mr. Parimal Tripathi and Amitabh is an English professor Mr. Sumkumar Sinha.

Dharmedra accidently meets Sharmila at a hill station, when she is on a botanical tour. He acts as a watchman to the guesthouse but eventually she comes to know that actually he is Prof. Parimal Tripathi. They fell in love and ultimately the marriage is fixed.

Om Prakash is Sharmila’s brother in-law and she is very proud of his smartness. Every time she meets Dharmendra, she boasts about her ’Jijaji’. He is also very much sensitive about using pure hindi when speaking.

Due to her daughter’s illness, Om Prakash cannot attend the weeding, so he has not seen Prof. Tripathi. Dharmendra decides to try his own talent against her Jijaji’s smartness. Dharmendra friend - Asrani as Prashant, helps him in playing this game. Om Prakash needs a good driver and so our prof. Tripathi goes there as a sincere & pure hindi speaking driver.

Om Prakash of course cannot make out that Dharmendra is actually Sharmila’s hubby. The pure hindi dialogues between OmP and Dharmendra are excellent and rib-tickling.

After few days Sharmila arrives at her ’Jijaji’s house’ to be affectionately welcomed by the new ’driver’. Then few incidences so happen that everyone gets disturbed due to the closeness of Sharmila and the driver.

As part of the game, Amitabh arrives as if he is actually Sharmila’s husband. By the time he arrives, Dharmedra the driver elopes with Sharmila. This is again as per the plan. He acts very upset as his wife is missing, and stays with Prashant’s house. There he meets Jaya - who is a botany student. Amitabh likes Jaya but her interest is to learn botany from Amitabh. So Amitabh is in fix. Neither can he teach Botany nor he can express his love to Jaya.

What happens next is very enjoyable to be seen on the screen. The entire movie is well made, the speed is very good, the timing of dialogue delivery is perfect.

Amitabh and Dharmendra who are known for their action films, have done excellent work. Their performance is flawless. Dharmendra takes the cake in acting.

I also liked the song by Lata Mangeshkar ’Ab ke sajan sawan mein’.

Watch this movie, if you have not seen earlier. In fact whenever you feel sad, take a shot of this laughing vaccine. Like my friend in Delhi, who keeps it handy.
