Story:

Just like the movie "The Pursuit of Happyness" which have a Y instead of an I, I put Y in my review title too, the reason being the same as reading the word by seeing Y will give the purest feeling of happiness, it shows a more lively environment, which is free of any sorrow, so did this book, which can be read any time and is the book full of sharing happyness, and good times with everybody, and after reading you'll forget all your sorrows, bad feelings, and will feel light-hearted and happy. It's the christmas-time novel with the christmas time feeling, just like the feeling delivered by "The Polar Express" movie. So here's the review of a classic book "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens.

About the Author and the book: This book was published on 17 December 1843 by Chapman & Hall, and was written by Charles John Huffam Dickens aka Charles Dickens. He was one of the most famous English novelist, and was very famous for child-fiction. He was born on 7 February 1812 at Portsmouth England. He wrote many novellas, novels, monthly & weekly serials, short stories, non-fiction, poetry, plays, articles, essays and many more. His novels are publishes in serials across papers, and he used to write during publication itself, unlike other authors. His other notable works are Oliver Twist, A Tale of Two Cities, David Copperfield, etc. A Christmas Carol was his 6th novella/novel, and is around 106 pages long (in e-book format I read). Around 20 movies has been made till date based on this famous classic novella, which deals with the pure happy feeling of christmas. Latest being the animated 3D version directed by Robert Zemeckis (who also directed The Polar Express), and it was released in 2009, voiced by the famous Jim Carrey. You can get this book for Rs.40/65 at Flipkart.com. The book is divided into 5 chapters (staves) each are titled.

The story: Let me tell you first that this is a ghostly story, but you'll not scared after reading it, since those ghosts are friendly one, and you'll certainly love them. There is an old guy by the name Ebenzer Scrooge who also run a small company named Marley & Scrooge. His partner Jacob Marley died 7 years ago, from that time, he was running it alone. On Christmas eve, everybody is happy, but he is not, he never liked this time, he hated leaving work and enjoying freely, he is a very stingy man, who didn't like to waste even a penny on beggar. He asked his lone worker to come on next day too that is on a Christmas day. The environment is totally cold covered with snow everywhere, and he didn't know why still all are happy even during such high cold-time. He went back to his big house after closing the shop. When he entered his room, and tried to sleep, he was visited by a ghost, a ghost of Jacob Marley, who told him to be aware of 3 more ghosts, who will come to see him, since he hate Christmas, so they will come him to teach him the true spirit of Christmas. Then one by one came 3 spirits of - Christmas past, present and future. They took him on the journey of his life and other village people's life to teach him a lesson of life, a lesson of living the life fully, with sharing happiness and helping all the needy persons.

The Pros: The best thing is the plot written by Charles Dickens, what a wonderful story to show the real meaning of life to all those readers who are disappointed and rash like Scrooge's character. It fills the goodness and happiness in reader's mind, and at the end they felt relaxed and much more merrier from the state they started reading. The pure feeling of christmas is told in a humorous way, and like a children's story-style. All the surroundings and environment is explained beautifully. When I was reading it, I was literally feeling that its not the characters but I am floating in that wonderous environment, that wintery-snowy surroundings full of laughter and happiness of other characters of village. The characters were thought beautifully, the character of Ebenzer Scrooge as the wicked-old man who hate everything, and then there's the Cratchits family, who share every bit of food and happiness in a positive manner by enjoying the Christmas, even when they're poor, and the Tiny Tim is dying, but still they're merrier.

The Cons: It was written before 1900s, so it have a typical old-style English language usage, which is somewhat difficult for reading and understanding. The book is a classic in its own way, but hard words make it difficult for every book-reader.

I completed this e-book in 3 days, but 106 pages are not much, and can be easily completed in 1 day and I bet you'll certainly feel lighter and merrier after completion of this book. My rating 4/5.
