Pros:
Comfort
Cons:
Electricity, After Sales service

Well.. I had a tough time selecting my air conditioner.. However ... For those who want to go in for one, here’s how i went about it myself...

1. Footing the electricity bills.
Neither
will the AC company specify how many units an AC will consume per hour nor can i tell you, but what i can certainly say is that for moderate usage of about 4-5 hrs a day (average/month) my electricity bill went up by Rs.1100/-
I now limit my usage only to necessity :D
Oh n remember, the AC price is not final, you have to buy a stabilizer and pay for installation too... which may work upto anywhere between 3500 to 5000

2. Find out your capacity requirement.
The room size determines the capacity of the AC. My room is 170 sq ft and i have a 1.5 ton capacity LG Split AC. The good part is it cools really quick, however at 22 degrees, it sometimes becomes uncomfortably cold if kept on for long durations.
So do i suggest a 1 ton AC for a 170 sq ft room?
NO, Its because the thermostat comes into effect sooner n cuts off sooner thus saving your electricity bill

3. Determine whether u need a Split or Window AC.
A split AC is as effective as a window AC and is preferable. You may get used to the noise and vibrations in the window AC but i’d still reccomend the split because it vibrates less. Besides, i feel that window AC’s will be outdated as the price difference drops every few months with newer technology.

4. Functions
I think that having a remote is good provided u remember where u last kept it!!!
The functions on the remote must have a/an
(a) Timer function so that u can pre program it to start up and stop for your convinience and comfort.
(b) Quick cooling option for those hot days

Some models DO NOT have these features and you must verify this.

5. Brand
Frankly, I think that brand does not have too much to do with performance. Most brands outsource the parts and just assemble it in India. Having said that, you still have to make a choice. I bought an LG 1.5 split because the brand is very popular and service is good too. I think that one should put after sales service ahead of brand.

So, I hope that this clears some doubts n helps you on buying an AC. Good luck n enjoy the comfort.
