Godrej Microwave Oven - Dumped in a corner

I bought a Godrej Microwave oven Model GMC 32B in Jan 2007 with warranty for One year. Exactly after one year some of the functions are stopped. (Turn table not rotating, inside bulb not glowing). I lodged the complaint on 15 Feb 2008 explaining the fault of the oven as both the troubles started simultaneously. (Complaint No. BM-003, Service order No. 458928).


One technician came on 17 feb. Just noted down the Model and Serial no. of the oven. Took Rs. 250 as inspection charge telling me both motor and bulb are not working, someone will come immediately to rectify the fault.


Next day another young boy came and started opening the top cover. (This is a all steel body type oven). He even did not bother to open all the screws of top cover and started pulling the cover to get access to put his hands inside to remove the motor. The steel cover is bent and is still in that condition only.


He replaced the motor and bulb, closed the cover and switched on the oven. The problem was not rectified. He left telling me that a senior technician will come and rectify the problem. The senior technician could find the problem is with the micro switch in the door locking mechanism. He told the oven needs to be taken to the service centre. After two days two people came and carried the oven to the service centre.


After one week the oven was returned, but with the same problem existing except the bulb is glowing. Thereafter nobody bothered to make it alright. It was lying unused for three months.


One day I opened the top cover. Removed the motor. Got a locally manufactured replacement and changed it. Well, it is doing its job perfectly.


But recently (Jun 2009) I had to shift my home to another location which not so far. But after the house shifting the Microwave Oven stopped functioning again.


So I thought to give a complaint again. I wanted an original motor to be in place. A technician came and changed the motor, but it was not rotating. He found out the PCB card is faulty. Later the same man came with a new card which was not suitable. He promised to come back with a suitable card and never returned.


Now I lost all hope of getting it repaired by the authorised service centre. The Rs. 11, 300 Item is now lying in the corner of my kitchen occupying a considerable space. This Godrej has shown so much of irresponsibility towards a customer by not providing a good after sale service.


I was ready to borne the cost of the spares and service charge. But Godrej Microwave division do not have competent and experienced engineers. I think they are outsourcing the after sale service and the contract is not so attractive. I have decided not to purchase Godrej items anymore.
