A range is something we all need so make sure you get one that fits your needs.

Gas has it's good points in that if the power goes out in a storm you can still cook. Gas also smells and there is the danger of the pilot going out and gas fumes leaking into the house. I also find that gas makes the bottoms of the pans a lot harder to clean. I don't find that it is any less expensive to use than electric.

An electric range heats very evenly, is clean and is not that costly and in my opinion a lot safer to use. It of course will not serve you if there is a power outage but I still prefer electric.

You will want to consider what you can afford in a range and what features are important to you also.

I hate cleaning ovens so I have a self cleaner and it is great to just set it to clean and have no scrubbing to do.

My range has the hood for exhaust built right into it along with a light for the range top as well as the oven and it has the microwave built on top of the range so an all in one cooking area which to me if I can save steps I love it.

A range will last you for many years so buy something that you really want and that suits your needs.

I don't like cleaning the burner units either but you can place foil over them and just a quick wipe and change once a week keeps it clean, at least for me as I do not do any frying of foods at all.

As with any range keep your heat at the proper temperature, keep check on your food and by all means teach little ones that they can get burnt if they touch it. Remember to use pot holders also.

I did ask my electric company one time about electric usage and a range does not use that much wattage in electric. A microwave uses less than the oven as it cooks much quicker and I use mine a lot. The only problem with having one built on the range is if it goes I have to replace the whole range or buy a separate microwave. Mine is over ten years old and still cooking so to speak.
