Newly married couples receive many items for the home at the reception or at showers ahead of time and they receive many duplicate things.
When my son got married I wanted to give them something useful and things that others might have forgotten so I opted for a bunch of little things. Placed them in several boxes and gave them as their gift.
One thing I included was a first aid kit. Everything I could think of. This included band-aids, scissors, tape, burn cream, tylenol, as much as I could think of. Also in this box were other bathroom items as this was a bathroom box. Such things as soap, shampoo, conditioner, towels and wash cloths(things you can never have too many off)
Their kitchen box included a set of spatulas and large spoons, a set of different sized bowls, some of moms' recipes, cleaners of all sorts including things for the laundry, a broom, dust pan, all those little things that when you have to go out and purchase them add up in a hurry.
I just thought about what I needed when setting up house keeping, made a list and went from there. They were thrilled with what they got and my son said I sure saved them a lot of money.
Since they didn't have a washer and dryer I included laundry bags and a cart with wheels for walking the clothes to a laundromat as they didn't have a ar either.
I have been to many weddings and seen duplicate toasters, coffee makers and the like. If you are going to give a gift that may be duplicated make it some thing you can use a lot of such as towels, or sheet sets, things like that.
They live on the other end of the country from me and I like to send care packages still with health and beauty aids, gift certificates, phone cards and of course baked goodies. My dear son asked if I could ship him one of my home made pizzas but that I have yet to figure out how to do.
Anyway shopping for newlyweds can be a lot of fun and a challenge to come up with different things. Just put some thought into it and I am sure they will be pleased.
