Choosing a wedding gift for a newly married couple can sometimes be quite confusing.  Sometimes the bride and groom have set up a registry in local stores where you can choose from their list of "wants."  That is the easy one!

The times when there is no registry can be the roughest.Except for the way my friends and I do it.We are a group of 5 friends who get together and pool our money and basically set up the kitchen of the new home they will be moving into.(At least to start them off)

We purchase a microwave oven(quite inexpensive in the U.S., usually under$50.00)

A set of service for 4 flatware, glasses, dinnerware and cooking utensils.  We purchase a starter set of basic pots and pans, a toaster and a blender.  We wrap these individually in tablecloths and kitchen towels!

We then get a wicker basket, line it with some cloth dinner napkins, fill it with jars of spices and condiments and a cookbook and wrap it in a tablecloth to match the napkins.

We each contribute about$50 to$75 and the bride and groom have a great starter kitchen set up!

Other friends of ours do the same for the bathrooms.

The bedroom and living room are really too personal for us to buy anything for, so we stick to the kitchen and bathrooms. This is really good only if you have a large circle of friends who agree to purchase gifts in a group instead of alone.

There are also the standard gifts of  crystal or cut glass vases. You can also purchases a custom personalized album to keep the wedding and reception pictures in.

But remember, if all else fails a newly married couple can always use cold hard cash!  A lovely way of giving cash is to do it as a money tree.  You buy a small plant, bush or even a small potted tree(that can later be replanted outdoors) and to each branch you attach bills of different denominations and decorate it all with beautiful ribbon.

Hope this gave some of you an idea or two.
