Before gifting a couple one must really take the relationship with the couple. The relationship would be with the bride or groom or both. It can be personal (relatives/friends) or official (colleagues). In relatives also you need to analyse how close you are to the receivers of gift. You choice of gift depends on these criteria.
When you gift your friends it can be anything, which is naughty too (depends on your relations) also it shouldn?t be such that your friend is embarrassed getting that. In Indian culture however you should avoid unless your friend knows you are gifting or else he/she would end up opening it in front of elders (ha ha ha) things like lingerie, night wear or a love game to be played by the couple. But I am sure it would make a nice gift to your best close buddy.
Well coming to serious gift list.
For the bride
You can give home appliances like a toaster, microwave oven, griller etc. they will love it. You can also gift a nice makeup box, a set of lipsticts from lakme or any preferred brand, ethnic or designer saree (make sure its worth a bride), jewelry set (imitation or real) Nowadays there are lots of varieties of imitation jewelry like geru set, or bronze polished set, or something in pearl (rice pearl) which I am sure a bride would love when it matches her different outfits. This gifts you could give to your relatives like sister-in-law, sister, maybe a friend too (if you don?t prefer romantic or naughty gifts)
In real jewelry also you get varieties, you can get pendent set with ear-rings and pendent only which cuts cost. You could also gift unique things like sindhoor box (kankavati as said in Indian culture) in which she can have sindhoor and can carry for her honeymoon or later use. (Silver one is better option worth a wedding)
Other option is a suitcase, which can be used when they go for honeymoon. All time favorite gifts like watches, statues of God (silver or gold), show piece can also be included
For the groom
Its difficult to choose gift for men whether its birthday or wedding. You can have watches, suit piece, in jewelry- gold chain, ring (if you can afford) or showpieces, even a good pen. Best is cash gifts.
Something for both
Includes home appliances mentioned above, cash gifts, showpieces ? romantic couple types in ceramic, lamps, statues of God (silver/gold) etc. there are gift watch set available (2 piece) for both men and women, that would be most memorable gift as they both can wear matching watches and will remember you.
If you are very close to couple you can talk to them before hand and sponsor their honeymoon (an ideal give to family members- sister/brother, niece, etc)
