My experience with schools in kochi started like any parent's - To find the best school for my older son. We were moving back from the U.S in 2006 and since we could not do enough investigation ourselves, we took our well-wishers advice and enrolled our son into the "best" school in Kochi. We paid quite a hefty sum to get in.(at that point about 50, 000/-) now I think it's a about 90k! Talk about education as an investment!
Choice school had good infrastructure for kindergarden. Unfortunately, we couldn't check out the teachers at this point(2006).(unfortunate for us as that contributed a lot of grief later on for us.)
We got 22- 23 year old ladies who had no experience as kindergarden teachers(they had montessorry training- big deal!) who though children who do all the normal things in class are ideal. The rest are not worth their time!
Love and affection in class and taking it slow with children who are not extrovert enough- that's not something in their curriculam. I want to share my experience so that for parents like me, this would be an aricle to consider before they make their final decision.
If your child is an extrovert, none of what I said might matter and your child may be selected for the extra curricular activities and promoted more and more.
We enrolled our oldest child in L.K.G. My happy-go-lucky child became more and more withdrawn and wouldn't talk to anyone in school and hated going to school. He cried everyday as we sent him off, trying to encourage him.the only day I think I saw him happy was on his birthday where he really enjoyed school.
For 7 months, this was the story and nothing got better and we noticed my naturally left hand inclined son was trying to write with his right hand! That was the last straw.
We decided that this is certainly not the normal course of things and refused to send him to this school anymore. Btw, we didn't even get a refund towards anything. Education is a wonderful business, I guess.
We started looking for options and that's when we discovered SSRVM(Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Vidya Mandir). Pl. check out that review if you would like to know about this school which was our life-saver. Btw, we are not hindus, so don't think we are biased on religious grounds. Good luck with your school hunt!
