had heard plenty about this place, and do remember visiting this place years ago. Anyways, was there the night before after a long and tiring day at work. Was expecting a decent meal and good service.
came back a bit disappointed though. Had asked for :
Spicy crab meat soup: this was all corn starch, green chillies, egg drops...and most probably no crab meat. At least I couldnt find any. this was clearly like a corn starch soup.
china gate fried rice: we ordered this, but were served china gate dan men (?). And the grumpy server (his name is Kay) insisted and argued that we had ordered noodles and not the fried rice. the noodles were finally taken away and the fried rice brought in when the rest of the food was cold. very passable standard fare. no great shakes.
lamb oyster sauce chilli garlic : pieces of roasted lamb (mutton, I am sure) in the above mentioned sauce. this was hot, fire - huge quantities of green chilly in this thing. had us gasping for breath.
king prawn singapore : four pieces of medium sized prawns in a sweet and spicy sauce. the was the best of the worst perhaps. but giving the devil his due - this was pretty well made. however, the quantity (or the lack of it )bothers me.
so as far as food goes, rubbish.
now to service: the server Kay, was perpetually grumpy and quite unattentive. There was this larger group of people on another table, and Kay had his eye busy ogling the women on that table. Pretty disgusting actually! We kept serving ourselves, and about at the end Kay deemed it proper to come and help. After we had paid the bill, even before we had taken five steps, he checked in the fold to see what the gratuity was like.
For the kind of money that we ended up paying, I dont think I want to visit them again.
