CHINA GATE

Well what can one say about China Gate other than it is one of the best Chinese Restaurants not only in the suburbs but also in the city. From starting as a small café type restaurant to a multi-storied

building restaurant in Bandra as well as having 2 more branches, one in Andheri and the other in Worli (Atria Mall), China Gate sure has done very well.
Staying in Bandra, I visit this once in 2 weeks with friends and have never been disappointed by the food. We all thoroughly enjoy the food and although the prices have been increased pretty significantly over the past few years, we still don’t mind paying that much as the food is really good.
However, I think with its growing popularity China Gate service has gone down considerably. The restaurant always had extremely good and efficient service and you could be rest assured that your food would arrive within 15 - 20 mins of placing the order. However, now it takes almost 25 mins for your food to come and most probably the waiter would have made a mistake in the order by getting you someones else’s food. Also another thing that is very irritating is that people waiting to be seated come and stand inside the restaurant in the area where people are already having their meal. So in other words, you are eating your meal with having atleast 20 people standing on your head looking down in your plate and trying to figure out what you are eating. This has been going on for some time now, but off late it has become very bad and the management of the restaurant have done absolutely nothing to resolve this matter. The last time I visited the place unfortunately I was seated on the ground floor and the people waiting for a table were practically sitting on my head. It was horrible and after that day I have decided that whenever I do to the Bandra China Gate next, I will make sure I do not sit on the ground floor, even if it means having to wait half an hour longer for a table on top.
Apart from that once can expect very good food at the resteraunt and the portions are pretty well sized. Please reserve a table before going although that may not help too much and you may still have to wait to be seated. Food that I would recommend is Stir Fried Greens, Lotus Rice and Pot Rice, Chicken in Black Bean Sauce, Wooly Chicken Crispy Spinach and Corn & Waterchestnuts.
To sum it all, China Gate still rocks as far as Chinese food goes and offers a very large spread of tasty Chinese food. All in all worth a visit. I have heard the branch in Andheri is bigger so maybe the problem faced in the Bandra China Gate will not be there.
