The best and the most beautiful things in the
world cannot be seen, nor touched...but are felt in
the heart.
Helen Keller.
I love reading . I have always found solace in reading books. Books are great companions, they reveal so much to you without demanding any thing in return.I could truly lose myself in a good book until I had devoured each and
every page.
The book 'Chicken Soup for the Soul', though it has a funny name,is not much about humour. It deals with the delicate intricacies of life that leave us bevildered, often lost and sometimes full of wonder. This is one book I could not put down until someone interrupted me or it was important...
WHenever I am feeling sad, lonely and a sense of hopelessness descends upon me, I just pick up this book and in no time I feel better. Its quite remarkable! The effect it has, is soothing and full of solace.
It has stories of people, people we bump into,on sidewalks or shopping malls, who say much about life in there simple day-today language, from their personal life experiences...and teach us the small but meaningful lessons of life. Those lessons which we all learn and are aware of, but fail to put in words.
THe book reminds you that there are always two ways of looking at life ...one is to see the glass half full and the other is to see the glass half empty. It is upto you to chose the direction ur life takes and the feelings that are aroused in ur heart.
THe book tells you that happiness and sorrow are all within us. 'And life is what we make it, always has been, always will be' says Grandma Moses.
This book is sort of a daily reminder, full of small stories and a few lovely poems. THese stories give you a new prespective and new ways of looking at life. It keeps on reminding that the small things in life which we take so much for granted also matter.
IT speaks on parenting, death and dying, on learning and teaching,on love, on living your dreams,on overcoming obstacles and eclectic wisdom. THe extraordianry thing about this book is that it is straight talk, no twists and turns. With the simplicity in which it is written, along with a few cartoons here and there, it warms your heart and lifts up your spirits. It will make you laugh at one time and moisten your eyes at other times.
Infact to create a light mood it begins with:
'WARNING-Reading this book will probably cause laughter, tears, lumps in the throat and a permanent increase in love, courage and personal responsibility.'
I would recommend every one on mouthshut to read this book because they dont come any better than these.
And I will finish this review with a story that touched
my heart..
SHOES
As Gandhi stepped abroad a train one day, one of his shoes slipped off and landed on the track. He was unable to retrieve it as the train was moving. To the amazement of his companions, Gandhi calmly took off his other shoe and threw it back along the track to land close to the first. Asked bya fellow passenger why he did so, Gandhi smiled.
The poor manwho finds the shoe lying on the track', he replied,' will now have a pair he can use'
Beautiful isnt it!
