If you are a channel surfer and have occasionally amidst switching channels ever come across a man holding a scooter at a 60 degree inclination or someone speaking into a cucumber as a microphone, it is Star Plus you are tuned in to and you are watching ’Chupa Rustum’. A 100 percent fun filled program that is assured to provide entertainment for the entire family. It is sure to bring laughter, a giggle, a smile or at least a grin to your face.

‘Chupa Rustum’ is a reality show on star plus hosted by the very cute Arun Thapar. A couple of actors get out on the streets and pull a fast one on nondescript, unsuspecting commoners. Yup, making stars of just about anyone walking on the street by playing a prank on them, a light practical joke and recording their candid, genuine responses is all this show is about.

To give you a brief insight of the kind of situations on the show here are a few of them

1.helping a man put on a sweater and tearing it in the bargain

2.a man handcuffed to an electrical pole asking people to set him free with a key lying nearby

  1. A man clicking photographs of people in a bus stop

4.a painter promising to make a portrait and then presenting a funny cartoon of you

  1. A couple carrying vegetables, asking people in a bus stop for recepies

And lots and lots more

  1. Gifting a person a buffalo as a bumper prize after answering a set of 3 oh-so-simple questions.

7.picking up lots in a supermarket and getting stuff like ’pay Rs 200’

I accede that this is not something new, we always had Candid Camera with Suzanne Summers, bakra with Cyrus and loads of these adaptations on lots of other channels. Nonetheless, this one is by far the best. Mirth is a great alternate for boredom. Neither is this program a soggy soap nor is it one of those nerve wrecking game shows. No stupid VJs with PJs. No big faces, no big names, no clichés, no plots, just plain masti is what I would call it.

The superb capturing of honest responses is undoubtedly the icing on the cake. The manner in which the actors get people on streets to do just about anything for them and how people willingly come forward to lend a hand is amazing. This program explicitly portrays how commoners can get themselves involved in a fellow passerby’s predicament. People are ever willing to dispense free advice, fight for something they deserve, stand and watch weird things happening on the street . Ultimately it all culminates in a smile and a warm handshake that reassures everything back to normal.

Yeah, that’s what the fun is all about. First they put a passerby into a weird situation, get him or her to do something bizarre (while we have all the fun), aggravate it by sending their actors, record all of this and then eventually intervene and ease them all by wide smiles and break the news to them that they are on TV. Finally convincing them that it was part of a comedy series! Kewl!

Well the next time you are out in the street, just beware of outlandish things around you. ‘Coz you can never say where a hidden camera is.

The bottom line that this program leaves you with

No man is an island. Man is a social being. Everyone smiles in the same language. A smilea panacea for any quandary is a universal code that breaks all barriers of language, age, sect, creed, sex, strata in society and any other blah lah lah of the sort.

So hey, keep smiling
