I had a test drive on
Chevrolet Tavera and my review is just based on that. We went for a 10 kms drive on it. The route was carefully selected consisting of smooth highway, bumpy roads with craters,
narrow by lanes and busy city roads.
The pros first:
- The driving and passenger comfort in all the roads were very good. The bumps and craters could hardly be felt. - The brakes were excellent.
- It has a fantastic power steering. I am used to driving Maruti small cars and yet, its turning radius amazed me.
- Leg space is great at all positions. The car gives you a roomy feeling
- Exactly something that you expect from a big SUV.
- One very impressive instance of the power of the car
- We were parked parallel to the curb where the footpath was almost 8 inches tall. From the stand still position, the driver turned the wheel towards the curb in about a 11:50 angle and very mildly stepped on the accelerator. We climbed up the curb effortlessly. Doing this a small car is unthinkable.
- Although a large car but the height is very comfortably designed - almost same as Maruti Omni and ambassador.
The cons:
- Gearshift was not too smooth
- The pick up was OK - not very impressive
- The gear position is a bit far and it was shaking a lot, making it uncomfortable to rest your hands on long drives
- Unreasonably priced. The low-end model is approx 5.5 but the power steering version (which is a must) starts from 6.7 ex-showroom. This is way too high to succeed as a everyday family car.
- For low-end models, theres no AC in the back, neither any window in the last row making life difficult for the rear passengers in a hot day.
Hope this helps but once again. This is just out of my 30 mins. and 10 kms endeavor with the car.
