Chennai is a great city with a thriving economy, cordial people and a sense of punctuality( not seen in Delhi!). However, its international airport does not do justice to this great city.
The arrival hall at the Chennai airport is slightly clumsy. I had to wait for over 40 minutes to get my bags after immigration process. In the process, I also had to walk for around half a km over to get this process done. Many immigration counters were empty the last time I checked into this airport. The security staff here is slightly arrogant. They frisk you heavy-handedly and treat you with an air of superiority. One of my friends was not allowed to wait inside for his taxi, even though, his taxi arrived only 10 minutes later.
The restrooms are also in deplorable condition here. The hygiene is way below what an international airport should have. The floor is usually dirty and you cannot sit on it. Usually you see birds perched here and there inside the airport. The airport smells awful too. The food-choices are pretty limited, as there are only one or two food-courts here. Even at those food courts, the food items are charged sky high. Additionally, the security clearing here is way too slow. In fact, I found the Chennai Domestic airport to be better than the international one.
