This was my first movie after I landed in USA. So being a rajini fan, I went into the theatre with great expectations. And thalaivar has fulfilled my expectations. I should say what a comeback ! Agreed , that many of his virtues were gone like swinging of cigarettes, his deep voice etc, I still found him to be awesome and was engrossed in the movie till the climax. Such was thalaivar’s charisma.
I am not going into the story of the movie. Thamizh koorum nal ulagam idhai arindhirukkum !
All the supporting actors were good especially Nazar. He acted like a country bloated bumpkin. When you compare that with the role played by him in Mumbai express as the helpless cop caught in the hands of tough mistress, it is amazing. The variety he can show in his roles is really great !Vadivelu’s comedy was adequate. But sheela’s role was completely unnecessary. So is that oomaiyan’s role. The way he keeps smiling mysteriously everytime rajini confronts sheela looks like he is going to play a significant role.But in the end he simply gets bashed by rajini without a reason. Same way, the character of sheela looks to be created just that some arrogant woman will beg forgiveness from rajini at the end. ! Gosh ! Thalaiva - you must be above all these cheapo things. Please give importance to your role and the story and not to these these silly fads !
Prabhu was ok.thats all. Unlike suresh gopi in malayalam or ramesh arvind in kannada who acted as the heroines husbands , he was not able to convey that shock and sadness on coming to know about his wife’s condition well. Infact, in the theatre everybody including me laughed when prabhu was shouting Aen Aen aen!!!
Nayantara is ok. Not much to talk about. She looked good in the konja neram song otherwise not so great.
Jyothika - THE heroine ! I actually think she destroyed the movie’s effect with a single hand during the climax. Infact during the raa raa song , I was shocked not by the turn of events or her acting but by her sense of makeup and the stupid acting. God ! She was looking a blind woman with so much of kaajal in her eye. Lady you had act possessed , not as a mad woman. She was totally stupid. Lady, please look at Surya. He can guide you expertly. ALthough you have openly confessed, you were ’’inspired’’ by Shobana in Manichitrathazhu, you should have modified it to your capabilities. Instead you have a made a copy cat act and ended up being a joke. !
Music is good. Annanoda pattu is a foot tapping number. Raa raa was good. Choreography was also very good in Raa raa song. Vineeth danced much more gracefully than Jyothika. But Jyothika was also good given the fact that she does not know classical dancing in the first place.
A few questions to P. Vasu - 1. How is that a beheaded body can dance for a jadhi before it falls down ? (Look at Kill Bill to find out what happens when you behead somebody) Sir, karpanai-kku oru alavu illa ?
2. Why is there a huge difference in the voice modulation of Ganga between incidents recounted by Rajini and as when happended ? Marandhuttengala !!
3. Why didnt you think of a better flashback for Ganga ? It was a total pethal ! You have decided to copy Manichitrathazhu. So why dont you copy well?
