Well I am not an ardent Rajni fan, though I was once upon a time. I could not sit through Baba and I went away in the middle. But I just wanted to give a try to Chandramukhi for the sake of Jyotika and Nayantara. The sight of the mysterious bunglow in ads also attracted me. I always liked mystery movies. When the movie started I was in 2 minds whether to watch or to get up and go. Especially when I saw an aging Prabhu with a weaker voice I just coud not sit as I always liked Prabhu’ s acting. When jyotika was shown as his wife I just could not take it. But then with Rajni’s entry and his usual fight I decided to be more patient. the movie actually took off when the story of Chandramukhi was narrated. Finally when the movie ended I felt satisfied. Acting wise nothing much to say about Rajni’s peformance. It is just one more feather on his cap. For one who had seen his old movies like ’’ Moonru mudichu, kai kodukkum kai, Avargal’’ etc where he had given sterling performances this is nothing extraordinary. But it has been long since he acted without his usual style and mannerisms. Prabhu’s role is short but not sweet. He looked pathetic. He has do something to bring his body in to shape or take up older roles and age gracefully. Jyotika was excellent. She is shaping up so beautifully nowadays. Nayantara was just there for songs and dances but she showed promise. The great talents of Vijayakumar, Nasaar and K.R Vijaya are wasted. When everybody was expecting Sheela to do something she turned into a lady with a noble heart in no time. Vadivelu saved the movie to a great extent. His comedy was superb. Except ’’konja Neram’’ and the Telugu sone I did not like the other songs. But Rajni’s first song was necessary for commercial reasons. Camera was good.
