Pros:
Rajni's screen presence, Jyothika's acting
Cons:
No Rajni superstarisms

A product launched exclusively for Rajnikanth is what is Chandramukhi. A debacle in Baba saw the tamil super star slipping way down abysmal depths. A resurrection was required in some
form or the other, as most of the fans thought that this was the end of his film career. A three year hiatus, lot of thoughts and discussions ended in the re-launch pad for Rajnikanth. When Rajnikanth contemplates something, it ends up in newspapers. What not has been published in the media reports about Rajnikanth - Ramakrishna with Aishwarya Rai or is it Jaggu Bhai, and even the punchlines were getting ready in many magazines. Oof!! That’s Rajnikanth for you in the Tamil filmdom. Once Chandramukhi was announced, the media couldn’t resist the temptation of hyping it beyond proportions.

Chandramukhi starts off the way any Rajni fan would want it to start off. His entry in the film is nothing short of sheer superstarism. His fleeting entry in a jeep, controlling the pace of swirling wind around him, with terrific rustling of leaves and his ability to check the ravages of natural elements cannot be an enigma with his fans. That is what they want and that is why they are shelling out even five hundred rupees in black to get a peek at the superstar for a first day first show. But then if you are going to the hall simply for the sake of the big fellow, then surely you must be disappointed. None of those characteristic styles that he sports, no punchline dialogues, no fiddling with cigarettes in mid air and no ripping dialogues that he so famously delivers. It is as said thousand and over times, a remake of the successful kannada film Apthamitra, which in turn is a remake of the super hit Malayalam movie Manichitrathazhu. The story revolves around a character called as Chandramukhi, who has lived out her life in the ancient period. Now, Jyothika and the burly Prabhu come to this little town, purchase the so called haunted palace where the dancer has spent her time, and plan to live out the remaining days of their lives. Prabhu, along with his relatives plan to live in the palace amidst a lot of speculation of ghostly existence in the palace. There are a lot of mysterious happenings in the palace that disturbs the serenity of the place. What is happening in the palace? Will things come back to normalcy? What has Rajnikanth got to do with the palace? Get the answers by watching the film at the nearest theater.

Rajnikanth has taken a very safe bet in this movie. It has a strong storyline, with good comedy sequences from Vadivelu. The film has a strong market among die-hard Rajni fans. The producers will surely be raking in the moolahs as the family members will surely enjoy such a movie. Jyothika has done a very good job and it is not just song and dance sequences that she has featured herself in. Prabhu’s role is just ordinary. Vidyasagar has come up with some good tunes and SPB’s manly voice in the song devuda devuda is superb. The direction is slick if not extraordinary.

There is nothing great in the movie, but if you are a Rajni fan, obviously you are not going to miss it!! But don’t look for any superstarisms in the movie!!

Thanks to the hype created around this movie, whatever happens, it is bound to be a winner!!!

Enjoy this movie on a sunday evening amidst family and friends in the nearest theater to your house!!!
