WHY HASNT ANYONE WRITTEN ANYTHING ON THIS BOOK
The first time I read catch22 I was about 15 years old and had found it a stupidly humourus funny book: something like pg wodehouse(I luv pg wodehouse so dont start jumping ). However there was something with that book that I was missing out on and I picked it up again: The book wasnt just extremely funny but also satirical, tragic, cynical and above all: a way to live.
The story is based on an airforce base in a small island off Italy where american pilots are dying even though the Allied won the war, because of vested career interests and misplaced sense of honour.
The story is about a madman called Yossarian who, as the catch goes, is the only sane man in the whole base because he is scared for his life and would refuse to accept any dictate but that of his survival instincts. The airforce base is a microcosm of society as a large and any reference to military pathos can be extrapolated to odinary civilian life.
The author lovingly creates a brilliant story while describing about 20 odd characters who are each a gem of a creation and each that you can identify with to some extent.
this book is sure to make you laugh and move you to tears in one way or the other. go ahead and read this novel if you want to know the truth about life and see how humour is the only way to cope up with adversity that is beyond your mortal control.
