A luxury affordable only by the very rich a couple of decades ago, the air conditioner is now a permanent fixture in most Indian homes. The CARRIER 1.0 Tr. Ultima is the resident “frosty” in our home since the past 4 years. The choice was varied. There were reputed brands like Samsung, LG, Voltas, Hitachi etc some even cheaper than Carrier but Carrier’s “silent humming” tipped the scales in its favour.
The very next day after the machine was delivered it was installed by the showroom staff as a gratis service. The reduction of vibration by providing the proper support and packing during the initial installation helped in elimination of all unnecessary humming sounds during the operation of the machine.
AESTHETICS
Its off white colour and sleek front panel just blend into the features of the room.Also, its made of good quality plastic which does not corrode like the older metal frames.
POWER CONSUMPTION
Yes, air conditioners do consume power and so does the Ultima but by setting the temperature on 24C and the timer for 4 hours only at night, and 2 hours in the afternoons in summer our power bills go up only by Rs1000.00 per month which is reasonable.
COOLING CAPACITY
Even in the sweltering afternoon heat the room not only cools down in a jiffy but the machine manages to maintain the temperature without cutting in and out too many times.
NOISE LEVELS
The main reason why I bought the Carrier. For a window AC it’s noiseless. The humming or the jarring cutting in and out of the compressor will just not disturb your sleep. Even after 4 years of service it’s as noiseless as ever.
AFTER SALES SERVICE
The first year AMC (Annual Maintenance Contract) for three services was free. After that with the authorized provider the cost for 6 planned visits is Rs2000.00 plus taxes. As I found that I did not need bi monthly servicing and quarterly servicing is good enough I pay Rs1400.00 plus taxes.
So far, besides the planned services I have never needed to call the technicians for any breakdown work. “Touchwood” :~). Regular cleaning of the filters and planned maintenance has ensured that my machine gives me uninterrupted service.
THE VERDICT
I do not regret paying the extra couple of thousands for this machine. The cooling, the not too extravagant power bills and most importantly the durability of the machine has made it a bargain buy for me.
