Canossa High School is a convent school and for girls only. It is located at Mahim, and has branches at Andheri East and Vasai West.
The unique thing about Canossa High School is that it stands out as an institution where you are given knowledge not only related to the course subjects but on matters much more and beyond. I have myself been a student of this great institution.
The teaching is lucid, simple and understandable by all. Learning by understanding is encouraged; learning by rote is not. The teachers here are instructed well by the management not to raise their voice and hands on the students - howsoever difficult the student may be.
The English taught here is just wonderful. Separate English Grammar lectures are held every week to improve the vocabulary and sentence formation. All the students are encouraged to speak in English only - they are not reprimanded for speaking wrong; they are corrected. Even the non teaching staff is very helpful and kind.
Canossa High School also teaches various arts and crafts such as cooking, knitting, sewing, pot culture, etc. Physical Training includes yoga and fun filled activities.
I remember in the Mahim school, every year, in our Social Work period we were given a task such as making a quilt out of waste cloth which we used to accumulate from the neighbouring tailors. We were taught to cut, and plait them and then stitch them together into a colourful quilt. Every class used to make at least 4 such quilts and all of these were then donated to the poor.
Besides this, many other cultural activities held in the school help to develop the overall personality of the child. Moral Science classes are held for non Catholic students to train them in ethics and values.
Truely, the students who pass out from Canossa High School come out as successful and confident individuals.
