Power Shot 520 Purchased 5 months ago.

From day one, software froze computer. For several months now, techs have not made it work- by phone or email. One phone tech just gave up.

On the

Internet, another owner said Canon has a program incompatibility issue with Acrobat and other standard programs.

1st REPAIR: The camera stopped working after two months of light use. It wouldn’t turn on. It took two weeks to get it off and back from repair.

It came back without being fixed.

2nd REPAIR: So, I sent it back to repair and the process took another two weeks.

The camera came back partially fixed. It barely turned on, sometimes warned of low batteries and turned itself off when taking a picture.

Additionally, images were broken up, pixilated and fragmented.

3rd REPAIR: I will send it back for a third time and have concluded that either A) the camera is a lemon or B) Canon Repair can’t repair.

After conversing with Repair in Illinois, I was informed that cameras are not put through complete tests.

I called it a lemon. In any event, I requested that the camera be completely tested.

I have to order a second camera because the Canon is so flaky. I do not want to have another Canon because the software has not worked and their camera is in constant repair. Plus, their Techs have not made their software work and their Repair operation has not made their camera work.

OTHER ISSUES:

The camera cannot reproduce items with bright primary colors. Otherwise, quality is generally better than my $75 Fuji. Number of pictures left is not readily displayed in the viewer. That is a huge drawback.

It was a hassle gathering paperwork to send in with the camera for repair.

If you’re looking for program compatibility, dependability and knowledgeable techs, keep looking.

PARTICULARS:

The camera practically demands an electrical adapter. It should be included. The Canon Store on the Internet did not sell an appropriate adapter. It may take a month to seek out, purchase and receive the correct adapter. By that time, you won’t be able to return the camera if it turns out to be a lemon.

The camera is complex considering that quality is not greatly improved by it.

The manual is not well written and organized. It seemed that each time I was referred to a particular place in the book to learn something, I was referred to yet another place in the book.

Distortion is a big problem. Photos of people have them bowed off to one side or the other.

Color value varies greatly from top to bottom. The top of a photo may have lighter values while the bottom has darker values. In outdoors shots, this is not apparent. But, when doing product photos, it’s a huge issue.

When working in modes other than automatic, the viewer is too crowded with information. The photographer can’t see the subject. A lot of button pushing is required in order to see through the viewer, see settings, and find out how many shots are left. Why didn’t technicians resolve this issue so everything pertinent is readily seen?

The shutter button is very stubborn and wiggles the camera when taking pictures. Pictures are blurred as a result.

The number of photographs left to be taken is not readily displayed. So, I get nervous because I don‘t know how many remain.

The protruding telescopic lens makes me nervous. It is begging to be bumped against just about anything.

The on/off switch is not easily found by touch. It is very difficult to press in. One must first locate it and then maneuver about with a fingernail. I might have to use a sewing thimble. A thimble should be included with the camera.

If one is hoping to do spontaneous shots, like when a bear is at your car window, this camera is not appropriate. There is irritating programming to do each time the camera is turned on. This involves the endless setting of a day, month and year. The creators were not using their thinking caps in this regard. Why not be able to just turn on the camera and shoot instantly?

The camera is very sensitive to uncontrollable weather conditions. So, how is it supposed to operate in snow or humid weather? This camera needs to be put in a baby carriage and wrapped in swaddling clothes. It isn’t a hearty, ready and dependable camera.

In conclusion, my experience with a Canon Power Shot 520 camera has been terrible. It is a lemon.

My experience with the camera’s software has been terrible. Canon techs have not made it work.

My experience with Canon Repair has been miserable because they have not fixed the camera despite two-three attempts.

If my experience is the same as a lot of other consumers, I would project that Canon products aren’t what they used to be and that the corporation is in trouble.

Pros:
I may get it replaced by a new one that works.
Cons:
Software doesn't work. Camera broke quickly.
