Evaluation This would have been a completely different review had I written it just one month ago, but now that CD Now has merged
with Amazon.com, things are a little bit different, and not all for the better. I’ll break this down into Pro’s and Con’s:
Pro’s On the plus side, if you can’t find what you’re looking for here you probably won’t find it anywhere. The selection is huge to say the least. The prices are below what you’d pay in the stores but don’t forget there is the shipping charge. Basically the final cost is the same but you don’t have to get out of your computer seat to get what you want. That’s nice to know on days when there is 2 feet of snow and I can’t get to the mall. The shopping cart system is pretty straight forward and one click shopping makes things very easy. The process goes through as secure socket so you don’t have to worry about someone grabbing your credit card number. Overall the shopping experience is quick and easy. A real time saver.
Con’s Now that CD Now has merged with Amazon there is a lot more stuff to weed through, so unless you know exactly what you’re looking for you can get lost in a maze. For example, let’s say there is a new song by Elton John that you heard but you don’t know the name of the song or the album it’s from. In the old CD Now you could do a search for Elton John and you got a nice one page listing of all his albums. In the new format however you only get about 10 results per page. In the case of Elton John currently there are 192 results which means you may have to go through 20 pages to find what you’re looking for. So depending on how much information you have it may take a lot longer to find things at CD Now than it used to.
Bottom Line You can’t beat CD Now for convenience and selection. If you know what you want it shouldn’t take more than 5 to 10 minutes to complete your purchase. Storing your information for future purchases will make things run even quicker. Because of CD Now I haven’t gone to a record store in years. Because of them, I don’t have to.
