Story:

I brought a book home that moved my six-year-old daughter to tears. I discovered the book Bunny My Honey through one of my co-workers at the preschool I teach at. Every day, the young toddlers in our room ask for 'Bunny My Honey' over and over and over again. There is no mistaking why.

Bunny My Honey Published by Scholastic, author Anita Jeram brings us a captivating story of a baby bunny that looks just like his mommy- only smaller. The soft cover book came with an accompanying tape that, like many before it, 'ding' when it's time to turn the page. The 31 page book is filled with beautiful illustrations by the author. (Who also illustrated the book ''Guess how much I love you'') It does not take more than three minutes to completely read this book to your little ones.

The Story:

Mommy Rabbit loves to call her baby bunny 'Bunny My Honey'. Mommy rabbit does much to show Bunny how loved he is. She teaches him how to do special rabbity things, like running and hopping, digging, twitching his nose, and thumping his great big feet. Bunny and his best friends, Little Duckling and Miss Mouse play lots of games together and have even created their own song. Mommy Rabbit is quick to comfort her little honeys when a game ever ends in tears...as games sometimes do. But then, one day Bunny gets lost. The illustrations demonstrate a sad and scared baby bunny. He quickly begins to cry for his Mommy. Just as young readers get worried for poor baby bunny, he hears something. 'Bunny, my honey!' he hears his mommy's calling... As the two are lovingly reunited, Mommy cuddles bunny, stroking his ears, kissing him and making him feel warm all over. They express the love that only a mother and child can have for each other, and on the way home bunny and his friends sing their song. ''And Bunny was a very happy rabbit,'' the story ends.

The Emotions: As you can see, the middle of the book is quite sad and points out young children's worse fear---becoming separated from their parents. Young children relate to the feelings bunny is having and listening to the tape can make this part of the book that much sadder as Bunny cries for his Mommy. I really delight in the children's reaction to bunny hearing his mother calling. This excites them in such an indescribable way. The toddlers in my class squeak and squeal as Bunny spots his Mommy's ears across the forest. Parents will relate to the love Mommy has for her baby bunny. And children can relate to the way Mommy is always there... The affectionate names given to bunny and his friends is a delightful addition to an already wonderful book.

The Song:

'We're the little honeys. A little honey is sweet. Quack quack, squeak squeak, Thump your great big feet!' This song is sung twice in the book and I have found that children not only love the song but also learn it relatively quickly. They delight in the thumping of their feet on the ground. Young children sound so cute singing along.

In Conclusion:

I very, very highly recommend this book. I have found that children ask for it, even when it is out of sight. They relate to bunny in so many ways and feel comfortable with a book that speaks to them on their level, in such an entertaining way. The one year olds in my class love it, as does my six year old daughter. It is a book I recommend for all ages of children. It is a very moving book that I hope will become as loved and cherished as much as such books as 'Goodnight Moon' and 'Love you Forever'

This book sure deserves more attention
