British Airways spends a lot of money on marketing itself as a premium airline. But the service they dish out to passegers is worse than any other. I flew with them in June out of Philadelphia,
on flight BA68. The flight was supposed to leave at 8:55 pm, but was delayed till a little before midnight. Since I had a connection in london enroute to Mumbai, I was informed by the check in staff that I would be put on another flight in London. The check in staff decided to bump me onto an Air India flight, despite my reservations, without telling me that BA had another night flight from london.
Check in then told me I would get my air india boarding pass in london itself. However, when I
got to London, there was no BA representative to be found...except at security. The lone representative there stamped my pass and waived me through -telling me that I would get the pass ahead.
Following the transfer signs took me right up to the Air India gate...where I was told that BA had not even bothered to reissue the ticket, endorsed to Air India. This meant that I didnt have a flight to Mumbai- Air India had not kept the seat, since BA did not confirm anything with them. Only after I had paid an additional 322 pounds did I they finally allow me on board.
Since getting back, Ive sent several emails to BA demanding fair treatment, but all I get is the same flunkey -with the hackneyed apologies. BA should atleast compensate me for the money I spent on the Air India ticket, a total of Rs 26,000+ and for the difference between that and what I paid for BA from london to Mumbai. Instead I get an offer of RS 4,000 only- towards my next flight on BA. Since I dont intend to make the same mistake twice, that offer is worthless. I can only hope that others dont make the same mistake I did.
