This film did India and Indians a complete disservice. It had the elephants, the songs, dances, silks, weddings, and hijras. The only things missing were the snake charmers, a fakir performing the Great Indian Rope Trick, a ’sadhu’ on a bed of nails, and director Gurinder Chadha in the center of the screen holding up a ’This Is India’ placard.

This film made a complete mockery of our culture and traditions. It further served to reinforce old stereotypes of Indians and bring about new ones. Bear in mind that this film is a British production and will be shown to audiences worldwide.
 
Bride and Prejudice made Indians from India look like gold diggers who have nothing better to do in life but wait to find rich NRI suitors. It stripped Indians of any dignity whatsoever. I am surprised that not that many people from India have found this film offensive. I find this film especially demeaning to Indian women. Do Indian women exist for the sole purpose to be swept away be NRI suitors? I wonder why hasnt anyone raised this point???

And thanks Gurinder for belittling our marriage customs, for mocking our culture, and insulting our people. Thank you for telling the world that our Indian mothers are madames of a brothel ready to sell our Indian sisters to the highest NRI bidder, or for that matter the highest ’’Umreekan’’ bidder. Thanks for telling the world that we Indians are all ready to dance to the tune of foreigners waving small change at us.
 
Thanks for telling the world that we Indians live in such a miserable country that we will gladly sell our souls to immigrate to a foreign lands to live as 2nd class citizens. Thank you for demeaning us and our country. But what does it matter as long as the dollars, pounds, and euros are flowing in right? Indians are too poor to have any dignity in your world.
