Sales person started with Sony home theater systems and noticed that I was not liking the systems in range of 40-45K, so he showed me the top model for 60, 000/- but still something was missing. I have great liking for Sony brand but was finding difficult to compromise on sound quality. Sales person was bit sarcastic in his remarks about my perception of sound.
I walked out of show room and was feeling dejected, then my wife suggested for demo of Bose systems at a nearby showroom. My first choice was Bose but I knew it was well out of range product. She knew of my desire and insisted to go there.
On reaching Bose showroom, we found that staff was very courteous and cooperative. Sales person inquired out about my interests and likings. I told him clearly about the budget. He started with basic model and moved to the upper one. Basic model was around 53, 000/- and my desire fizzed out. The other one with 3 speakers was around 65, 000/-. Just because of pocket we decided for the base model with two speakers, I was thinking about 13, 000/- more to be shelled out.
Sales person insisted to have demo of the top model with jewel cube speakers(research product of Bose). According to him, it was the best and I would like the performance. I asked him the price but he cleverly ignored my query and showed us the way up to demo room. He played movie and it was awesome. We were thrilled with its performance. Then I took out my music CD’s and tried it. I had CD’s of Jagjeet Singh, Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, and Pt. Jasraj and of latest Hindi film music. I knew it was the one to fulfill my requirements.
When we sat out for discussions, I again asked the straight question about price. When he disclosed the price, I felt as things around me were moving. My God who would buy such an expensive music system? In short I became one of those customers.

A person comes for inspection of your room before installation. Installation is being carried out by trained persons, who take care that it is properly installed without running of wire here and there. In my drawing room, guests find it difficult to find as to how the rear speakers have been connected to main unit.
After installation, you are required to tell preferred viewing locations. You can opt for as many and then with a special kit, these sitting locations are customized. Any one sitting at these places will have stereophonic sound, irrespective of speaker locations.
It is fun to watch movies like Lakshya, Vertical limit or Fast and furious and also to listen to Sufi or Classical music on low volumes. My dream of owing a good system is fulfilled and I am thankful to God and my wife for that.
Tips - Do your homework and shortlist the models as per your requirements and budgets.
Carry your own video and music DVD/CD for demo purpose. If you take demo at different showrooms, you will observe that they play same movies, which have excellent sound effects. And in fact every movie is not like that. Same is true in case of music.
More output of sound does not mean that system is better than others. Look for clarity, fine details of sound effects.
