Never judge a book by its cover

You know that saying '' never judge a book by its cover '', well that can apply to many different things, however taking it literally can be an issue for me. I 9 times out of 10 judge a book by its cover. Why? Because in a library full of books, the books have to work for their money.

I am not  going to take notice of books that don't put themselves forward. Unless the book is a classic, or i'm looking for it, or it's on display then I am most likely not to see it. And what's wrong with this method?, well yes I can miss out on a lot of great books, however it means I have read many great ones as well, all because their cover attracted me. I love John Marsden's books, he is my ultimate favourite author of all time. I was attracted to his books originally because they had interesting covers, obviously I read the blurb and decided the book was for me but the point is if I hadn't decided to look at that book because it's cover attracted me then I wouldnt have been introduced to that author. My experience with judging books by their covers is that many of them have sucked basically, but some have been great reads.

My personal opinion on the saying '' never judge a book by its cover '' is don't take it

literally, doing this can have both positive and negative effects. I will admit that I have read some great books with boring covers but I would have been more likely to look at them if they had great covers. So ultimatley I think there is no harm in judging a book by its cover, but you should read the blurb before you decide :) A book that can draw you in is better than one that can't and that is why I judge books by their covers 90% of the time.
