Frankly speaking, I went to watch the film the second day after its release, but had no expectations whatsoever from it. All I had in my mind at that time was the possibility of getting bored throughout
an art film which had already got all the media attention before its release. It was then being touted as an international film blah blah...
The first scene of the film, when rani mukherji starts narrating the story beginning with mai michelle Mcnelly gripped me and then throughout the film my eyes were glued to the film, to each and every shot which was a class in itself.
BLACK is the kind of film which left me completely stunned. At the end of the film, when whole of the audience stood on their feet and gave a thunderous applause, I couldnt believe that I had watched a bollywood movie, such were the mesmerising performances from the lead characters and above all, an impeccable direction by Bhansali.
not to forget the haunting background score and outstanding cinematography..
The story of a deaf, blind and mute girl played by rani mukherji/ayesha kapoor who guided by her ageing teacher (Amitabh) and how she achieves the impossible is as sensitive as it can be.
Bhansali may have wanted critics appreciation, but his honesty and his creativity shows in every frame of the film. This is what a work of art is. BLACK is truly world class cinema at its best...
It is that kind of cinema which has changed the way we look at hindi films.....a redifining moment, which lingers in your memory long after the show has ended, a sort of magic weaved by bhansali, amitabh and rani which hasnt been achieved in recent times..
BLACK gives me hope, BLACK is an honest attempt by a director who wants his audience to realize...that nothing is impossible in this world. BLACK is THE cinema.
I found it to be ranis best performance till date, proving once again to be a superb actress...amitabh continues to give outstanding performances film after film...BLACK will remain as one of amitabhs best films.
Black in my memory, remains one of the greatest films i have ever watched on the big screen...never before i have been deeply moved by any other film....
Its CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE SOUL....
a must - see for lovers of good cinema
