Hi, today I will sharing a easy way to deal with this corporation who advertises it self as your friend with ads like "jo mera hai vo tera hai" and latest ad about full transparency by showing network towers. I used to work for an ad agency and worked on Airtel ads for a period of 6-7 months and I know how they operate. Airtel is not really a honest company but however it seems to be the best option at the moment in New Delhi in terms of cell phone connectivity and internet service(not customer service!). I will share 2 incidents and will tell you a great way to deal with them. Ready. alright here we go.


First, the small incident. There is a DLF mall in Sarojini Nagar Market which has an Airtel Store. Some of the most slimiest people work there. 2 times I have gone there, once for getting a new number and the other time for internet facilities with a particular request for prepaid connection and both the times they said, "sorry sir, it is currently not available, but let me show this post paid option which will be best for you." Both the times I left the store and told my father about the incident. Both the times my father took me back, threatened their manager with legal actions and both the times the store employees apologised and immediately provided me with the prepaid option. Case closed.


Incident number 2. This one will make you angry because this can most definitely happen with you.(A little bach story. My parents have been divorced for more than a decade now. they both love me very dearly and both come for each others aid when need be.)


Now, My mother had purchased a post paid internet connection for her iPad a while back and recently discovered(because of me) that prepaid is the way to go, because it is cheaper and she really doesn't use the internet like I do(video tutorial, music etc). When she wanted to close the account the customer service people said why don't you pay out the bill then we will close the account. So she did that, but the account did not close and was reactivated. She told the customer service people the story and they told her to pay the bill and they will close it. My mother paid the bill again and the did not close the account. She contacted a sales representative separately who told her that it will keep getting reactivated until unless they close it first, so wait till they close it and only then pay.(Maybe all employees are not corrupt to their core, there are exceptional cases). So she did not pay the bill for the third time and instead told the representative that please send your executive to come to our house with a full and final bill and only then I will pay.


(To All who are reading this. this is very important. All ways ask for the full and final bill with the representative's signature. It works because my mother accidentally got it done for another number years back and you will not believe that the collection agency still calls for the payment which she doesn't owe them


Back to the current incident. So for the past 4 months the collection agency for Airtel has been harassing my mother 3 times a day, everyday and all calls are made by different women. The women who call are rude, they shout and every now and then a nice woman will call to confuse my mother. But my mother is the type of woman who can make tough men cry, she is a psychologist(specialised in mental illnesses).(Hurray for Ma!).


She knows that all the calls are recorded and they try to make her say that, "oh, so you don't want to pay". Every time she responds very calmly by saying, "that is not what I said, send your representative with the full and final bill and I will pay." So they have been saying the, "no that is not possible" or "oh! you want us to come to your house, why don't you go to one of the outlets."


I know ridiculous, isn't it!


For the final part of this post. the Solution!


I will point out first the obvious.




  1. Stay calm, don't get angry because the calls are being recorded. They can use it against you in the court of law if it does go that far.




  2. Don't give up! Very important, they are not right to do what they are doing by harassing you. They are playing a long game where they will keep harassing you for a long time till you give up and say, you WIN"




  3. the Final solution I have come to understand to keep these Big Companies under control is by opting for pre-paid services and not post paid. When you are in control of the money they will listen to you. Converting from pre-paid to post paid is easy but the their way around is very difficult because that is where they make most of their money.






So go Pre-paid till a reliable competitor comes along who can match their services.(Not their Customer "Care" services).
